URANUS are a range of bituminous waterproofing membranes featuring an excellent low temperature flexibility that can be successfully employed in a wide range of climates and , thanks to their great dimensional stability, are particularly suited for use in roofing systems subjected to extremely high levels of strain.


URANUS FC membranes employ a distilled bitumen compound modified with a very high content of styrene-butadienestyrene (SBS) thermoplastic elastomers. The excellent quality of this range of membranes is highlighted by two indicators: cold flexibility (-25° C) and elasticity (2000% elongation at break). These two parameters positively affect both resistance to thermal ageing and resistance to cracking of the waterproofing surface, increasing the service life of the roof. Thanks to their high resistance to cracking, URANUS FCmembranes are suitable for any climatic zone and for use on roofing systems subjected to significant strains. The excellent cold flexibility guarantees ease of application, an important feature in areas characterized by harsh climates.

Since this compound can be damaged by exposure to UV, it’s suggested to either apply mineral-protected finish URANUS FC - or other UV resistant membranes - as upper layer or to use URANUS FC membranes under ballast (concrete or gravel-covered pavement).

The Reinforcement employed in URANUS FC membranes consists in a heavy-duty rot-proof spunbond non-woven polyester fabric reinforced with glass fiber affording great elasticity, tensile strength and tear resistance. This is a “composite” reinforcement that combines the excellent mechanical properties of polyester reinforcements with the extraordinary thermo-dimensional stability typical of glass-fiber fabrics. 

These combined properties avoid surface shrinkage and guarantee tensile strength, elongation and tear resistance allowing the membranes to absorb high levels of strain caused by structural movements of the underlying building and make it possible to employ mechanical fasteners to increase wind load resistance of the roofing system and withstand pedestrian traffic and static loads. Different reinforcements, as well as any other custom configuration of the product may be necessary to the Client, are available prior agreement with General Membrane.
